Hey everybody! I hope you are all doing well :) It's been a more normal amount of time since my last post. And honestly, I've had this blog post idea just sitting in my notes app for a while now. But since we are nearing Thanksgiving, at least for here in the US. What better time than to make this post!
I was initially planning on posting this much earlier in November, but it took me a lot longer than expected to finish it. And I've also been planning for upcoming posts in December. So, though it may seem like I haven't been active since Halloween, trust me I've been working on a lot behind the scenes. I've also just discovered Adobe Express, so I've also just been messing around with a lot of fun graphics and templates :)
Anyway, I'll quit rambling, so that you can read the actually interesting portion of this post. And hey, maybe you'll even learn something ;)
One day, Nellie, Josefina, Saige, and their two loyal dogs were relaxing inside when...
Caroline entered with boxes full of Christmas decorations!
"Can someone please help me out with these boxes?"
"Nevermind."
Nellie reached for The Nutcracker that had fallen out of one of the boxes.
"Oh hey! I remember this.'
"Caroline, are you seriously putting up Christmas decorations, already?"
"It's not even Thanksgiving yet."
"Hey! Don't judge. I'm the one that does most of the work anyway."
"Yeah, but we're the ones that have to live with it."
"I don't know..."
Saige stopped mid-sentence to toss her football into the air. Catching it with ease.
"I kind of like the idea of having all the Christmas decorations put up during our big Thanksgiving dinner."
Lightning effects sound, as Sam enters the room.
"Whassup, everybody!"
"Sam, what is with that outfit?"
"Hey, aren't those my goggles?"
"How dare you guys condescend me!"
"I'm a mad scientist!"
"I know all sorts of secret formulas."
"Isn't that your Halloween costume?"
"Yeah, so? It's still fall season."
"Well...Not anymore, apparently."
"What, why?"
Josefina points to the fallen boxes.
"Caroline! What the heck? It's not even Thanksgiving yet."
"That's what I've been saying!"
"Whatever. You guys are just a bunch of Scrooges. All, 'Bah! Humbug!' "
"Opps." Saige exclaims as she drops the football.
Sam reaches for the football,
and tosses it back to Saige.
Saige giggles, and tosses it back to Sam.
As everyone goes back to their activities, Gwynn enters the room looking particularly grumpy.
Gwynn sat next to Nellie, staring up at the ceiling.
Nellie looks up from her book.
"Um...Gwynn..."
"What?"
"I...uh...I think your headband might be stuck."
"Hey, at least it's not a Christmas accessory."
Josefina turns towards Caroline, gleefully waiting for her reaction...
Caroline just rolls her eyes.
"It's not stuck! It's to hold my bangs back. They're getting in my way!"
"Well here. Let me help you."
Caroline continues unpacking the boxes. Starting by untangling the Christmas lights.
"Hey Gwynn? What are your thoughts on having Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving?"
"I don't know. Can the Christmas tree branches help pull back my bangs?"
"Don't encourage her, Gwynn."
Caroline smirks and then starts humming Jingle Bells as she continues to unpack the Christmas decorations.
"Hey! This is a 'no Christmas music before Thanksgiving' house!"
"Touche'."
"Actuallyyyy...Jingle Bells is a Thanksgiving song."
"No, it's not."
"Is to! Look it up."
"I don't need the internet. I'm a mad scientist, remember!"
"But that doesn't make any sense. The lyrics are so...Christmasy."
"Well...It is! It was written in 1850 by James Lord Pierpont. And it's assumed that it was originally written to be sung at a church choir for Thanksgiving Day. It's all on Wikipedia."
"No."
"Yes."
"No!"
"Yes!"
"Hey guys! Guess what else is a Thanksgiving song?"
"All I Want for Christmas is You!"
NOOOOO!!!!
Ta da! The end.
I guess I didn't realize until uploading all the pictures and typing out the script, how short this photostory really is. I know a couple months back a few of you were requesting more photostories. And I just hadn't gotten around to doing any, since they take quite a while. So, I hope you guys enjoyed it! <3
Also, sorry if the lighting in the photos were a bit off. I haven't really done a full photostory since the move last year, and so I don't have the same front facing windows like I did before. And I'm also experimenting with some studio lights. Plus!, I shot this across multiple days, all at different times. So, bear with me.
And of course, I can't end this post without talking about the elephant in the room. The elephant being the fact the Jingle Bells is a Thanksgiving song! Can you believe that? I found that out a few years ago and its since been a running joke in my family that that's the only "Christmas" song you can sing out loud until after Thanksgiving. But I am super curious as to if you guys knew about this or not. Like is this common knowledge or...Also! Let me know when you guys usually decorate for Christmas (if you celebrate it of course) My family has always, always, decorated the day after Thanksgiving every single year.
Honestly, partly why I wanted to make this short fun story to begin with. Is because I'm really curious about the different ways people think when it comes to various Christmas related things. So, don't be shy, I want to know your thoughts :)
And with that,
I hope you all have an amazing day!
And don't forget how much I love you! π
When Do You Put Out Christmas Decorations?
Did You Know Jingle Bells Was A Thanksgiving Song?
Thank you so much! π₯° I'm really happy you enjoyed it! I was thinking for a while about what punny line I could end the story on, and that stuck out to me for some reason, lol π So I'm glad you liked that part.
ReplyDeleteThe end of October is wild to set up Christmas decorations! I'm still celebrating Halloween at that point, lol. Christmas is amazing though so can't blame them π
This photostory was so much fun to read! The camera angles were spot-on!
ReplyDeleteYes, I've known that Jingle Bells was actually a Thanksgiving song for several years now, but I cannot for the life of me remember how I found out π€π
For many years we would start putting out our Christmas decorations the day after Halloween. We haven't put up any this year yet, but we shall see...
Aw, thank you! π€π I'm so glad you liked it! Honestly, when I was uploading some of the pictures I wasn't sure if they were too wild or not, angle wise, so I'm super happy you liked them!
DeleteThis photostory was amazing! I didn't know that "Jingle Bells" was a Thanksgiving song...but I'm glad to have learned that. xD.
ReplyDeleteMy family used to always put up decor the day after Thanksgiving too, but lately I've been influencing them into doing it earlier. XD. I know we put up our tree early in 2020 because we were traveling for Thanksgiving and we bought a new tree that year. I think we went back to after Thanksgiving after that, but this year we've already put up all the Christmas decor!
Thank you, Diamond! I'm so happy you liked it ππ
DeleteWe had to do some of our outdoor Christmas decorations earlier this year, like you in 2020 we're traveling for Thanksgiving, so that's a fun coincidence!
