Potatoes and Molasses - A Fall Photoshoot
Honestly, I think this might be the longest stretch of time I've been inactive on here. Or at the very least, the longest in a while.
It's so nice to be back :) And I will say, being able to just return every few months and post feels so much better to me than continuing to post every week even if I was feeling burnt out or unmotivated. I'm able to spend more time and put more energy into each post; having it be just the way I want. Instead of feeling rushed to get one ready and out in time. I'm also able to enjoy my time writing and taking pictures, instead of feeling pressured into doing it, which in turn made me not enjoy the process.
So, I'm sorry if you miss me being here on the regular, but hopefully these occasional posts still give you some dopamine, lol. And if it's any comfort, I haven't gone anywhere! I still do updates to the blog and add new pages somewhat regularly. Also, I'm trying to make sure I read and comment on all your guys' blogs every month or so, to keep up with the social aspect that I love so much about this blogging community. Though, if I'm being honest, I haven't been doing that...But I'm going to do a better job of it! So, hopefully, you'll see me pop up more to say hi 🩷
Anyway, now that we got that update out of the way, we can get to the nitty gritty!
I don't know if you guys are familiar with the show 'Over the Garden Wall' or not, but it's this fantasy cartoon that came out over ten years ago now, I think. I had heard about it, but I actually hadn't sat down and watched it until this February. I fell in love with the breathtaking fall scenery, and lively characters. So, I've basically known since then, that I wanted to incorporate it into a post, somehow.
So, after rewatching it for the cozy autumn season, I decided to craft some costumes of the two main characters for the dolls! Well, not entirely. I had most of the clothing already. But I made both the teapot hat and red gnome hat with paper, cardboard, tinfoil, LOTS of glue, and a dream. I also, sewed the blue cape with scrap fabric and some old gold buttons. Unfortunately, I did not have a frog (aka Jason Funderburker), but I was able to find a small stuffed frog finger puppet on Amazon, and that worked great!
Now, you may, or may not, be wondering who I chose to "play" Wirt and Greg. Well, Greg was an easy choice, honestly. I wanted to pick dolls that had a somewhat significant height difference, so Gwynn was perfectly suited for Greg. And she has that younger sibling energy that really fits with the character. At first, I was going to have Sam play Wirt. But I felt like Nellie fit better with Wirt's personality. Very poetic and cautious. The siblings (Wirt and Greg) also have hair color that contrasts, and I wanted to have that for the photoshoot with the dolls as well.
And lastly, before I show you all the photos, I wanted to share this playlist I found on YT. It perfectly fits the ambience! (mainly because it has songs from the show...) So, if you'd like, you can turn it on and listen while reading the rest of the post :)
Well, I guess that pretty much sums it all up! Sorry for the rambling. I just wanted to explain my thought process a bit more when it comes to planning for these photoshoots.
Sooo, without further ado... (because I've clearly done enough of that already...) Here are the photos! I hope you enjoy :)
