Moonlight Jellyfish - An (Archived) Photoshoot

Hey everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful day. I've missed this little community <3

I knew I wanted to make some posts earlier in the year, since I hadn't in 2025. But I was unsure of what to do. And I've had my hands full, as of late. Fortunately, I remembered a photoshoot I had done, coming up on, 2 years ago (August 2024, I believe). I'm not sure why I never posted it. Maybe because it's a bit unusual; different from my regular style of photography. It was around the same time that I did the Retro Sights - A Photoshoot, and I think I was just in a funky, experimental mindset, at the time.

This particular photoshoot I did with one of my BJD dolls, Luna. I don't actually think I had ever done a photoshoot with just her (only ever duo shoots), but I should do it more often. BJD dolls are some of my favorite models to work with! As they have so much articulation, it allows me to be more creative with movement and posing. Anyway, if I'm remembering correctly, I had seen a lot of photography (on Pinterest), using projectors. And that was my inspiration, so I decided to give it a go!

Side note: the title was inspired by the song 'Dance of the Moonlight Jellies' by ConcernedApe, from the video game Stardew Valley!

When I was sitting down to edit this post and finally look back on these photos; something about the floating bubbles projecting onto Luna, who looks so ethereal, just felt fitting for the enchanting sound of this song, as well as the fun name. So, if you'd like to listen to it while reading the post, feel free!

So, yeah, after a long time coming, here's the photoshoot! I hope you enjoy.

The focus is rather poor in this one, but I liked the shot and editing I did for it, so it's worth it?

I hadn't even realized, until now, how her cape laying on top of her head, looks kind of like a jellyfish ;)

And there you have it! As always, let me know what you thought of the photoshoot, and the post as a whole. I hope to make a few more posts before the holidays, this year. I've been busy with school, volunteering and job searches, and my other various hobbies. But I've been wanting to get back into doing more photography (doll and experimenting with other mediums), because I've missed it.

But keep me in the loop! How's everyone been? Any plans for the summer? And are there any news from the doll community that I need to be updated on, lol. I hope you all are having a great day <3 And if you aren't, you'll be okay. Tomorrow is always a fresh start.

Love ya,

Hailey

  1. Woah okay, I'm getting behind on blog stuff. Somehow I just saw that you posted this?? I adore funky photoshoots, so yes I would like to see more! I may just be in an experimental phase in my own photography, but breaking out of the box is always fun, in my opinion. I've seen lots of projector photoshoots on Pinterest as well, and I think you pulled it off in doll-size better than I could have! All the photos are amazing, but something about that second-to-last one really catches my attention. It's very ethereal. I would definitely not be opposed to more photoshoots with your BJDs---I love seeing all sorts of dolls! Also, I totally understand being busy with life; it gets to be a lot sometimes. I think you and I are in the same phase of life right now (I remember you saying in one of your past posts that you were 17--- I'm also 17), and the volunteer work and job searching is especially relatable. Those two things are pretty much what I've been up to this summer. Playing with dolls is way more fun.

    1. It's all good! I feel like I'm playing catch up all the time with blog stuff. So no judgement here, lol.
Thank you so much for your sweet compliments 🥰 I'm so glad you liked it! And that the photoshoot feels funky, (in a good way) but also ethereal. That's what I was hoping for.
Life is definitely busy and chaotic at times. And yes, I agree that we're in similar life phases at the moment. I just turned 18 in June! It's comforting to know there are people in the same boat, lol. I hope volunteering and job searching is going well for you 😊 And that your summer is going well. Thanks, again 🩷
